If you have any feedback on how we can make our new website better please do contact us and we would like to hear from you.
The Society was originally formed in 1961 by 10 workers at the Boulton & Paul Aircraft site based at Pendeford near Wolverhampton.by the end of its 1st season membership has risen to 30. Somewhat aptly its original name was " The Boulton & Paul Aircraft Golfing Society".

During 1961 Boulton & Paul were taken over by The Dowty Group based in Cheltenham. In subsequent years The Dowty Group were then taken over by Tube Investments. TI were then taken over by Smiths Industries who were then taken over by G.E. Aviation & finally G.E were sold to the current owners Moog Aviation.

Throughout all of these changes the Society kept its original name until 1970.Then, to reflect its current ownership the name was changed to "The Dowty Boulton & Paul Golf Society". This name remained until 1990 when the name was again changed to "Dowty Aerospace Wolverhampton Golf Society".

Finally in 1998 the Society adopted its current name. At this point there are no plans to change again as the name is now well known throughout the Midlands golfing scene.

Originally membership was restricted to workers at the Pendeford factory, but as time moved on this restriction was lifted to allow former workers, friends & relatives to join.Today we now allow anyone of a resonable golfing standard to join us based on the rules of the Society.
Ie Society was originally formed in May 1961 by 10 workers at the Boulton and Paul Aircraft site based in Pendeford,Wolverhampton. By the end of it's first season membership had risen to 30. Somewhat aptly its original name was "The Boulton Paul Aircraft Golfing Society.

During 1961 Boulton and Paul were taken over by the Dowty Group whose headquarters were in Cheltenham Gloucester. In subsequent years the Dowty group were then bought out by Tube Investments and recently T.I. were taken over by Smiths Industries.Since then Smiths sold out to G.E. Aviation & more recently G.E. sold out to Moog Aviation.

Throughout all of these changes the Golf Society kept  its original name until 1970. Then to reflect its  current owners the name was changed to The Dowty  Boulton Paul Golf Society. This name remained until 1990 when the name was again changed to Dowty Aerospace Wolverhampton Golf Society.

Finally in 1998 the Society adopted its current name.

At this point in time there are no plans to change its name again as the Society is now well known throughout the Midlands golfing scene.

Originally membership of the Society was restricted to people working within the factory site, but as time moved on, this restriction was lifted to allow former workers, friends and relatives of workers to become members. Today we now allow anyone to join our Society based on the rules stated in the Membership page of the website.

In order to maintain a degree of control and ensure the smooth running of the Society most of the comittee members are elected from within the factory site.
